Learn Only What You Need

The Write Well, Write Now system is not a "canned" course in which all students complete the same lessons at the same time.

We never waste time teaching students what they already know.

Instead, we assign individualized lessons based upon each student's written essays. We have found that students and parents appreciate our personalized instruction and the way we make the most of each student's time. We respect each student and have developed a course that gives directed, immediate attention ONLY to actual areas of student writing need.

Newspapers Agree

On September 26, 2004, the San Bernardino Sun newspaper ran a front-page headline article as part of a series on writing called, "What Testing Doesn't Measure."

The article's headline was, "Overtaught, unprepared: Exams hold students to a lower standard."

It went on to describe how even "A" students were unprepared for university level writing. "…The A's she earned in high school didn't matter. Shirley Zepeda needed remedial writing…her first year at Cal State San Bernardino…"

The article reported that students don't leave high school with the skills they need to succeed at a university. Click here for more...

Two Types of Writing

It takes knowledge of two types of writing to become a successful university student: The first is SAT/test-taking style writing. The second is the scholarly essay writing University professors require. Write Well, Write Now teaches both in our dynamic, interactive, personalized 16-week course.

SAT Writing

This test is a 30-minute "snapshot" of a student's writing ability. The actual test itself is provided, along with a numerical score, to the universities to which the student is applying.

Since the numerical score is worth 1/3 of the overall SAT scores, students must score well on this section in order to get top scores. Unfortunately, even students who receive a high score may have difficulty vying for rare and highly competitive slots at the best universities. There are many students with similar GPAs, similar SAT scores, and well-rounded life experiences. Universities will now look at the actual text of the SAT writing to determine who will win those competitive spots.

Just being a good writer does not ensure SAT writing accomplishment. The SAT test is only 30 minutes long and has specific requirements for success. Test prep companies, while extremely valuable, do not provide the numerous practice experiences necessary for students to truly work to "automaticity" when under stress. Write Well, Write Now does.

Two Types of SAT Instructional Classes

8-Week SAT Writing Course:

During our 8-Week SAT Writing Course, we introduce students to the fine points of SAT writing during their 6-hour in-person seminar, giving them multiple opportunities to learn and practice these critical skills. Then we follow-up with 8 weeks of highly personalized, directed instruction and practice.  The mentor teacher/student ratio is 1:15, ensuring personalized instructional time for your child.

Students will polish their already solid writing skills, prepare in advance personal examples of illustrations, memorize appropriate quotations, and learn how to rapidly structure and execute a fine essay in a very short period of time.  They will write one essay each week for 8 weeks, thus giving them 10 total opportunities to practice solid SAT writing skills.

1-Day SAT Writing Seminar:

During our 1-Day SAT Writing Seminar, we cover all aspects of SAT writing in a fast-paced, exciting environment and allow students to practice 4 complete SAT-style essay tests.  We have an instructor/student ratio of 1:5 for this seminar so students will receive immediate feedback and scoring on each of their written tests.  This class is perfect for last-minute preparation or for students who are already confident in their writing abilities but need to practice and receive intensive instruction to maximize their potential for success.

Scholarly Writing

Scholarly writing involves researching topics in peer-reviewed journals, pulling together disparate sources of information, analyzing conflicting facts and opinions, drawing appropriate conclusions, and being able to develop a solid thesis statement and then back it up with well constructed paragraphs that support solidly drawn contentions.

This type of writing is no longer taught in the average English class in the United States. Students may write essays in school, but there are few, if any, opportunities for writing a college-level piece including actual peer-reviewed journals and valid research examples.

At Write Well, Write Now, we teach true scholarly writing. We believe that we would be short-changing our students if we only taught SAT style writing.  Students learn how to research and format references, how to cite sources in their texts, about academic honesty and plagiarism.  They practice writing essays and get plenty of review, criticism, and re-writes so that they can hone and perfect these techniques.

Our 8-Week College-Level Scholarly Writing Course is critical to university writing success and prepares students of all ages for the rigorous requirements of university writing.  Our writing test prep courses focus on students developing the skills necessary to pass their SATs to gain entrance into college.  Our Write Well, Write Now USA Scholarly Writing Courses prepare students of all ages to succeed in college after they have arrived.
